Part 7: Zangser Kangri - out

First serious bike problem. The carrier of the ball bearings had been grinded to pieces and stopped all movement on Nadine's front wheel. Still not a bad hub with 15 000km bad condition riding.

Highly concentrated bike mechanics putting the loose ball bearings back into the hub without the metal carrier.

Finally, after 37 days without roads we found a faint track which lead to a nomadic camp. First humans in 39 days. We had almost no food left and ate rice, tsampa and sugar like crazy when invited.

Followed the track and arrived at the first buildings we had seen since we left Mangnai Zhen. All empty. The whole area was deserted. We were really happy we had met those nomads and had gotten some provisions.

The paths once again disappeared, but the shores of Gomo Co was excellent for cycling.

What wasn't as excellent was the mud area we encountered when we almost felt all the hardship was over.

It was of the worst type. Either you got really stuck in it or you sank fast. We had to move quickly at some places or we were quickly knee deep in sucking mud.

The depth of the river was constant, it was just a matter of how much mud there was on top of the bottom.

It was always about 90cm deep, but at some points 70cm of that was mud.

Back on the shore riding again.

Finally, a real road over the grasslands on the southern side of Gomo Co.

Even roads like these felt like a highway.

Last camp. We could already feel we were in a warmer climate directly after we had left Chang Tang proper.

The normal Tibetan attributes all over the place all of a sudden.

Not used to traffic and spectators when you stopped.

Nor passmarkers.

A parked yak.

Late evening. The last riding. Gomo Xian only 5km up the road. Nadine was already under arrest when we arrived.

In a police Landcruiser all the way from Gomo Xian to Kashgar.
