Part 3: Ulugh Muztagh Area - half way to Kukushili

A curious visitor arriving in camp. He went and half an hour later he came back with two of his friends.

Sand of the type you find on beaches. No fun. Impossible to even push the bikes at times.

Bad water quality. Drinkable, but brackish

Along the shore of one of Tibet's salt lakes.

Too rough and muddy at the lake, had to leave it and get up on higher ground.

Martin getting rid of a whole pannier of garbage. Burning all the Knorr Bolognese packages. He ate that two times/day for the first 33 days.

The weather had been stable for almost a week. Unusual for this period of the year.

Our coffee table. Coffee, snus, Alpenliebe and a good book - what else can you ask for?

Chiru horns everywhere. Here in a sandy area about five days from Ulugh Muztagh.

The bikes were getting lighter and lighter, but they were still quite heavy.

Martin in a wide river, trying to find a way over. Too deep. You can't really swim with your bike.

Arrived in a bleak area. Very salty ground.

More and more chirus and they were not afraid, which they usually are.

The area got more and more colorful.

Arrived at an unexplainable crater full of water.

On the colorful salt plain there were some pyramids.

Entered a new area full of animals and volcanic like sand and rocks. Nadine checking her water for larvae and maggots. Plenty of those around in the water in this area.

It was obvious who was the kings of this area. They watched us all the time.

I saw a lone bull yak and started to take photos of it. It ran straight at me. "Yaks don't do like that, I thought. They don't attack without warning".

This sour old bastard did and when it was about ten meters away I realized I was in grave danger. Two seconds after this photo was shot I stopped taking photos throwing a rock at the yak. He didn't care at all and I went for my bike, to hide under it. Fortunately the yak got scared when I in desperation threw my water bottle at it and it changed course six meters away from me.
