Part 2: - Fujian - Ulugh Muztagh area

Fujian Feng, a 5800m unclimbed peak en route.

Nadine and Martin having a short rest on one of the frozen parts of Aqqikkol River.

Nadine on the last part of the crossing of the over a km wide half frozen, half muddy river.

On the south side of the river. Drying the feet and getting all the pebbles out of the boots.

Looking back at the Ayalik Range. Always in clouds. The highest peak is just over 6000m.

The endless plains of the Aqqikkol plains. Ayalik Range in the background.

Found some tracks again! I broke a spoke, the expedition collegues decided to take a nap while I fixed it.

The strong colors of the northern side of the Kunlun foothills. Red rivers.

My constant companions at every break - Army bisquits, TPC-map and GPS.

Ulugh Muztagh seen from the east. The two peaks are both over 6900m and is supposed to some of the hardest to reach on earth. Very sandy in this area. We have now left all tracks and will not find any for the next 37 days.

We followed a river gorge up towards a pass in the Kunlun range.

The Kunlun pass wasn't that impressive. Just another flat gap in between two hills. 5300m.

On the southern side of Kunlun. Looking south - the heart of the Chang Tang. Absolute emptiness. Sometimes this sand was cyclable.

Looking north, the Ulugh Muztagh massif was at the horizon.

Desolate camp. Riverbeds all over the place.

Martin trying to get some water from the frozen river. Here we had down to -19.

An eerie, cold, barren and desolate place for sure.

Ulugh Muztagh - 6973m. First climbed in 1985.
