Part one: Golmud - Fujian Shankou

Stocking up with food in Golmud.

Martin and Nadine 20km out of Haotogou. Hot. Heavy bikes. Provisions for 50 days+. No stupid trailers needed :-)

Martin arriving in Mangnai Zhen. No, it's not snow and it's in broad daylight. The asbestos clouds hanging heavy over the place.
Life expectancy here?

First camp, at a ruin. Last furniture to sit on for the next 55+ days.

First real obstacle en route - a 250m wide river. A little bit muddy, but warm water and weak current.

Nadine about half way over.

The first warning of what kind of weather area we were heading into. The Kunlun and the Chang Tang has a rough weather pattern in the summertime.

Arrival of what was expected. Snow, whiteouts and cold and wet cycling/pushing for some days around Ayakkum Lake.

Still on some sort of track through the Qimantag mountains.

Finally the snowfall disappeared and we had clear skies. No road to follow though and we pushed on over endless snowfields for some days.

We hit some tracks again! Great!

Getting closer to the pass. More snow, less mud.

Close to the pass. "The road" is now a river with ice water and mud.

Finally, dryer conditions, but some memories from Fujian Shankou stayed with us for a couple of days,
